Social care within the Community

Passing the Baton has made a significant impact in Ghana by actively partnering with local NGOs to empower, inspire, and transform lives. Our work focused on bridging gaps and helping individuals and communities recognise their internal resources to create better futures for themselves.

Notably, we delivered motivational life skills programs to over 100 school-age females and their youth workers in Akosombo, first in October 2021 and again in December 2022 at the Christmas Campyard. Our programs covered a wide range of interactive themes, including:

  • Menstrual Infection, Management, and Candida Infections;

  • Health & Hygiene;

  • Mental Health & Well-being;

  • Aspirations & Careers;

  • Finance;

  • The Role of a Facilitator in the Community.

These sessions were met with a strong thirst for knowledge, creating a powerful experience that marked only the beginning of our ongoing efforts to uplift and empower the next generation.

Girlswing embraced in UK Poetry Competition

UK - Ghana Collaboration That Sparked Hope!

Published writers at 14 years old

During an inspiring time at the Girlswing Christmas Campyard in Akosombo in 2022, two young girls from Learning Fields International School in Akosombo, Ghana were given the opportunity to share their aspirations of becoming journalists. The room was filled with teenage hope and excitement and expectation for the future!

Upon returning to the UK, while working as a PA at a local Senior Academy, Richelle received an invitation to a literature competition for school children aged 12-16. Despite initial disinterest from the students at my school, I extended the invitation to the Girlswing project in Ghana.

Richelle shared the essay theme, “If this building could talk,” and within two weeks, Richelle received essays from five girls eager to participate.

The anticipation of their submissions was immense, but the outcome was worth the wait—these young voices from Ghana demonstrated incredible talent and potential, further affirming the power of nurturing dreams, empowering the next generation and international collaboration.

The two outstanding young girls, Eldal and Princess Afriye, competed on an international level alongside UK students, and their submission earned a place in the book “If this building could talk.” This book now resides in UK universities specializing in architecture and business, as well as in high schools—an incredible achievement.

Attending the book launch in London was a proud moment, and it was even more rewarding to deliver the signed copies to Ghana.  The Head Teacher of Co-op Academy and Richelle wrote motivational messages in the girls' books, celebrating their success.  This experience has fueled our ongoing commitment to stand in the gap for marginalized communities, amplifying unheard voices and facilitating opportunities for achievement to ensure they have access to opportunities locally and internationally to utilise, develop their gifts and talents to fulfil their potential.

Charitable donations and gifts given to communities in Accra and Kumasi….

Since August 2021, we have been fortunate to receive free-will donations, which we meticulously check to ensure they reach those in need. Our donations come from a variety of sources, including family, friends, individuals, Morrisons supermarket, and The Women’s Institute in Leeds.

These contributions include essentials such as baby supplies, feminine hygiene products, clothing, footwear, blankets, and learning material.

These donations support under privileged areas, assist local refugee and asylum groups, and help low-income families by supporting high schools. Additionally, supplies are shipped to verified projects in Ghana that help underprivileged rural communities with little to no outside assistance.

Looking ahead, we hope to broaden our scope by working on regional and international initiatives to assist marginalised and economically challenged communities. Through our efforts we aspire to transform lives around the world by promoting happiness, love, and hope.

We are honored to have been recognised as a trusted organisation by local fundraiser Develey Brown, who, along with his wife, mobilised their family and friendship circle to raise over 2,000 items for our projects in Ghana. This marks our largest donation to date. Each year, the Browns choose a new project aligned with their personal mission to reach the unreached, ensuring that communities benefit from redistributed resources.

This year, we synchronised the arrival of our consignment with our personal visit to Ghana, enabling us to work alongside our international Directors to distribute items directly to organisations and communities in Accra and Kumasi.

We are deeply grateful for every gift, big or small, and the kindness shown to us, which extends our reach and helps fulfill our mission to touch the world with kindness.

Ghana Mission July/August 2024:

A Journey of Connection and Compassion

Our July/August 2024  Mission to Ghana was one of our most memorable experiences yet, giving us the chance to connect deeply with organisations dedicated to uplifting communities, improving educational standards, and bringing hope to those most in need.

During our three-week stay, we were honoured to engage with key stakeholders like the Ghana Education Service in both Accra and Kumasi. Together, we discussed the upcoming “I Can” Career Fair planned for 2025 and explored new ways to enhance facilities and support for children with Special Education Needs (SEND). This trip was a chance not only to see the impact of our efforts firsthand but also to receive donations from our recent fundraising campaign, which had been shipped in advance of our visit.

We had the opportunity to Collaborate with Local Organisations and were warmly received by three incredible organisations that helped us distribute donations to those who need it most.

Below is an outline of our collaboration with each partnership:

  • Three people holding supplies in a library, with bags on the floor and shelves of books behind them.

    Street Children Empowerment Foundation (SCEF)

    In Accra, we had a meaningful discussion with SCEF, sharing ideas for future collaboration and strengthening our mutual commitment to support vulnerable children. Their work focuses on empowering children from the streets, their families, and women in the community. We are excited to continue building on this foundation.

    Asokwa Children’s Hospital

    Our visit to Asokwa Children's Hospital underscored the profound impact of direct engagement with those in need. Distributing gifts not only brought joy but also addressed immediate needs, demonstrating the tangible difference our involvement can make.

    Such experiences invigorate our commitment to support families and communities, as they highlight the importance of empathy, compassion, and action in our mission. These moments serve as reminders that every small gesture can contribute to a larger purpose of healing and hope.

     Step By Step Worldwide Missions

    In the remote area of Ejisu-Kwaso in Edom State, Kumasi, we visited Step By Step Worldwide Missions, an organisation devoted to providing SEND children with “A Home for a Lifetime.” We were profoundly moved by the love and dedication shown to children who had been marginalised due to their disabilities. The nurturing environment that Step By Step provides is truly inspiring, and we remain committed to supporting this remarkable community.
